3D Modeling of Geological Structures near the borehole
Modeling geological structures in the vicinity of the borehole, preserving orientation and azimuth.
Category: Oil Industry Application
Technologies: C++, C#, VTK.
Geological structures in the vicinity of the borehole can be approximated by planes as shown in the upper-left figure. These planes stored orientation and azimuth of the geological structures. The trace of a plane is a sinusoid and therefore these planes have an exact match with the sinusoids. In our software the plane motion adjusts the sinusoid and vice versa. In this process the well path has not been considered and therefore the planes are shown in correspondence with the borehole. The upper-right figure shows four views of the planes that model the geological structures.
