Spatio Temporal Data Mining in Oilfields

PetroSynapsis owns a family of widgets for the spatiotemporal data mining of oilfields.
Category: Oil Industry Application
Technologies: Oilfield Simulation, Computer Graphics, VTK, C++, C#.
We have developed for PetroSynapsis one family of widgets for the spatiotemporal exploration of the properties and variables of a reservoir. PetroSynapsis widgets have the ability of spatiotemporal sampling, which means that if a property or a variable of the reservoir varies over time then this property is displayed dynamically. This feature makes these widgets excellent tools for assessing global phenomena occurring at the oil field during the simulations. The left figure below shows the control panel to select from five different types of widgets for data mining, they are:
  • ImageBox (also exists ImageFixedBox)
  • Multiplanar
  • Orthogonal
  • FreePlane
  • Picker (Spatial and Temporal)
All widgets have the ability of spatiotemporal sampling. The following figure shows the ImageBox type widget to the right.

The figure below shows the Multiplanar widget to the left, the user decides the number of pillars, five pillars have been selected in this figure. To the right is shown the widget “Orthogonal”, the user selects from options X, Y, Z or XYZ as shown in the figure, any number of planes can be added to the 3D scene.

The figure below shows the widget “Freeplane” on the left, this widget is controllable in angle, position and extent. On the right the figure shows the type widget “Picker”, the user moves the yellow sphere in 3D space. While it remains attached to the surface of the deposit, the chart above displays the properties and variables. If the ball stops, then the temporal sequences of properties and variables are activated, if any of them exists.
